The South Canterbury Drama League is one of the most active in New Zealand in relation to its area and population. It is comprised of a number of sections who stage a variety of productions. New members of all ages are always welcome, both as performers and in the many backstage roles like lighting, sound, wardrobe, set design and construction, props, dressers and more!
The Junior Section stages a major production each year in the Theatre Royal and often a second smaller production at the Playhouse. The major production’s auditions are held at the end of the fourth school term and attract about 130 young people. Performers must be between the ages of 11 and 18 years and still at school at the time of the performance. The final cast usually averages about 70 in number.
Costume Hire: There are a wide variety of costumes for hire at reasonable prices. Our costume hire staff are keen to hear from anyone who would like to work as a volunteer and/or who may have sewing skills for mending or creating costumes for the League.
